UNDISPUTED CHAMPION

Reed. 9.50 a.m. SYDNEY, Today. COMMENTING on the Victorian Derby result, the •’Herald” says:— Phar Lap is the undisputed three-year-old champion of the season. The gelding was accompanied to the course by a policeman, who remained at his stall until after the race, and then accompanied the horse off the course. Phar Lap won almost as he liked, breaking Manfred’s 1925 record by a second after being last away. He was held in check until the mile post, where he was allowed to run into fourth place, behind Pentheus, Taisho and Carradale. Approaching the home turn Pike moved on Phar Lap, but quickly realised he had the race in keeping and a furlong from home allowed the gelding to bowl along. The winner finished very strongly. Carradale, by again finishing second to Phar Lap, proved he is the second best of the three-year-olds.
