DREW PHAR LAP * SHIP’S STEWARD’S £20,000 PROSPECT Bright was the smile of Stewart Stevens, steward, as he welcomed passengers on the Zealandia at Sydney last week for the trip to Hobart. There’s a reason. Word has come through that he has drawn Phar Hap, Melbourne Cup favourite, in a £20,000 first prize consultation. “I’ve been taking tickets all my life,’’ he said, as he polished brassware. “I’ve had a fifty, and came my way.” “Stevo,” as he likes to be called, has been seven years on Huddart, Parker ships. Before the Zealandia, he was in the Riverina. ITis ticket, he said, was taken solely by himself, and was one of several. DAYLIGHT LIMITED STOPS AT FORDELL The Fordell Limited runs like an express when he lias everything his own way, as lie did at Waverley, but he is not too solid when tackled early, though it must be admitted that he takes some heading off in the early stages of a sprint. A disappointment for some seasons, ho is racing more honestly now, though Fred Tilley would not think of including him in a team for Trentham or anywhere that really good-class sprinters are likely to be met with. Small fish are sweet. Limited bolted half a mile at Waverley after breaking through the tapes. AMOR’S INJURY Amor developed severe lameness when walking to the Rangiora racecourse from the railway, and was in a bad way for some time afterward. Ho was still suffering yesterday, although showing improvement, but it will probebly be a few days before he will be able to resume work. This will mean a serious interruption in his prepartion for the Xcw Zealand Cup, and he can be suggested as an unlikely starter.
