LABOURER ON TRIAL
SERIOUS CHARGE PREFERRED The hearing of a charge of indecent ;:s-;iu:i on ;i male, preferred against a labourer, Alfred Carter, aged 29, a marrial man living apart from his wife, was begun before Mr. Justice Smith in the Supreme Court this morning. Mr. A. V. Hubble appeared for the Crown and Mr. Noble for the defence. The boy concerned stated that, in reply to a newspaper advertisement, lie had met Carter who arranged a further meeting bv telegram. The boy ■ w ith Ct rter In a hoarding-house in the city during the night of September , when the alleged assault took place. Carter, in a statement to the polico, denied the assault, while admitting .that >o- and the boy occupied the same room. After an hour and a-half in retirement the jury returned a verdict of guilty and the prisoner was remanded for sentence until Saturday.
