•‘Owner.”—l have an oIU model T Ford car, and I am thinking: of putting on a generator, and the only way I can drive it is from the fan pulley on the engine. What I really want to know is the speed of the generator; whether it is to be run the same speed as the engine, or 2 to 1. Also the wiring diagram for charging battery and connections for headlights. Could you advise me on these details? The correct speed for a Ford generator to run is 15 to 1 of the crankshaft. If any other ratio than this is adopted, unsatisfactory results will probably ensue, i.e.. insufficient or overcharging. A diagram showing the correct connection for headlamps and battery charging, etc., can be obtained from the *T” model Ford Manual, obtainable through any Ford dealer. B.B.—My car is of a Duco finish, and a friend has urged me to use a new polish by the name of ••Hi-Lit.'." 1 am a bit dubious about it damaging the Duco. and would like to have your opinion in this matter.

The polish is satisfactory. It is not abrasive, and does not chalk the celluloid. Some colour will come off when it is used, but this is pigment outside the celluloid. W.J.R—I have'a Big X motor-bike and am desirous of Atting electric head and tail lights. The bike is already lilted with a generator and storage battery. Could you supply me with the information of how to wire the above lights, battery and generator? The globes are single contact. Take a lead from the postlve generator terminal to the positive batterv terminul and earth batterv terminal to frame. If an ammeter is fitted, the battery wire should go through it to earth. Take another lead from generator terminal to the switch, and from the Other Side, of switch to headlamp adaptor, which should be two-way tvne for operating main and dimmer bulbs. The tail-lamp lead is taken from the , same sw itch term’nal as the headlamp • wire. It is essential that good contact is : made between lamps, brackets and } frame.
