NEW CONVENT SCHOOL
BUILDING AT MATAMATA (Special to THE SUN) MATAMATA, Monday. A large© number of residents were present when the foundation-stone of the new convent school at Matamata was laid by Bishop Cleary yesterday. The new school will be of brick, on a concrete foundation. It is to be 104 feet long, and 32 feet wide, and will comprise four classrooms, two of which will be 30 feet by 20 feet, as well as a teachers’ room and a library. The walls of the classrooms are to be mostly of glass, and the windows of such a type as to permit the entry and circulation of the maximum of air without draught. The school will be equipped with the most modern furnishings, and will accommodate 250 children. Already applications for entry have been received on behalf of 130 Homan Catholic children, in addition to a number of non-Catholics. A convent property has also been acquired close to the school site. This consists of a five-roomed residence on a spacious section. To the* existing house are to be added two sound-proof music rooms. The contract price for the school is £2.550, and it is hoped to open, the building on January 31.
