PERSONAL.—Mr. W. E. Sanders has joined the Kaiwarra as second engineer, in place of Mr. Crawley, who is ashore on leave. Mr. L. B. Clark, late second engineer of the Otokia, is now on holiday leave. Mr. J. Longley has joined the Kaiwarra as fourth engineer, in place of Mr. G. H. Davis, who has transferred to the Kamona as third engineer. Mr. C. Suisted has relieved Mr. G. Wilson .as chief engineer of the Hawera. SPONDILUS DEPARTS.—The Shell Company’s tanker Spondilus left Auckland yesterday morning for Balikpapan. She will probably load for New Zealand again. MARISTON TO COMPLETE.—To complete her discharge of Makatea phosphates, the steamer Mariston left Auckland on Saturday for Lyttelton. Later she goes to Westport for bunkers. MOERAKI SHIFTS.—The Union Company's steamer Moeraki was shifted from the Prince's Wharf on Saturday to alongside the Maunganui at the Central Wharf to undergo her overhaul and surP.ARANGA SAILS WEDNESDAY.— Efforts are being made by A. S. Paterson and Company to dispatch the Shaw. Savill and Albion Company's steamer Raranga from Auckland at 4 p.m. on Wednesday for New York, Boston, Halifax and London, via Panama. TAINUI AT LONDON. —The Shaw, Savill and Albion liner Tainui, which left Wellington on September 19 for Southampton and London, is reported to have reached London on Saturday. The vessel has a cargo of New Zealand produce and took a number of passengers.

GOLDEN FOREST WRECKED.—The American steamer. Golden Forest, formerly the West Togus, 5,65 S tons register, and owned by the Oceanic and Oriental Navigation Company, is reported to be a. total wreck in Shelikof Straits, near Seattle. The Golden Forest went ashore at Avatanak Island, Unimak Pass, about Julv 24, and started leaking in No. 1 and 2 holds. Later she was refloated and beached at Akutan Island for temporary repairs, where a portion of her cargo from No. 1 and 2 holds was discharged into a small steamer named the El Cedro. On August 13 she was refloated, and left on August 30 for Seattle in tow of the tug Salvage King. AJI went well until September 5, when she again we Fit ashore, this Jime in Shelikof Straits, and after to refloat her she was abandoned on September 3 2 as a total loss. The Golden Forest, which was well known at Auckland, left Australia last April for Japan, and from there she proceeded to the Pacific Coast.

ULI M AROA FROM SYDNEY. —Due at Auckland tomorrow morning _ from Sydney, the Huddart-Parker s intercolonial passenger steamer Ulimaroa w i berth later at the Prince s Wharf to land her 253 passengers, mails and car o o. She is scheduled to leave here at 11 a.m. on Friday on her return trip to Sydney. TOFU A ARRIVING.—Radio advice received by the local office of the Union Company states that the Island steamer Tofua is due in the stream at Auckland at 5.30 o’clock this afternoon frnm Suva About an hour later she will berth at the Prince’s Wharf to land her passengers, mails and cargo. The vessel is due at Wellington on Hovember 29 to land passengers and mail. She will afterward unload her cargo of general merchandise at Lyttelton, Port Chalmers and Timaru. MIN LEAVES NEW YORK.—Running under the auspices of the A. and A. Line, the steamer Min is reported to have left Hew York last Thursday with cargo for discharge at Auckland. W'ellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. She is expected here about the end of November and the New Zealand Shipping Company will act as agents.

DALVEEN AT COLON. —En route from Galveston, Texas, to Auckland, the steamer Dalveen is reported to have reached Colon last Tuesday. The vessel has a cargo of sulphur for discharge at Auckland, Hew Plymouth, Newcastle, Sydney, Geelong and Adelaide. She is due at Auckland about Hovember 19. A. S. Paterson and Company, Limited, will act as the local agents* lONIC’S FINAL PORT. —Due at Wellington from London and Southampton on November 12, the Shaw, Savill and Albion liner lonic will unload her general merchandise cargo at Lyttelton, Port Chalmers and Bluff. Afterwards the vessel will load for her Homeward voyage at Dunedin, Bluff, Wellington and Auckland. She is due at Auckland on December 7 and is to be dispatched for Southampton and London, via Panama, on December 11. REMUERA AT LYTTELTON.—The local office of the Hew Zealand Shipping Company has been advised that the liner Remuera arrived at Lyttelton yesterday from Hew Plymouth, and leaves on Wednesday for Wellington and Auckland. She is due here next Monday and sails again on October 7 for Napier, where she completes loading and finally departs on October 9 for Southampton and London, via Panama. N.Z. SHIPPING COMPANY’S NEW SHlPS.—According to the “Shipping World,” the New Zealand Shipping Company is understood to have placed contracts for three motor-cargo vessels of 9,000 tons each. One will be built by William Beardmore and Company, Ltd., one by Palmers Shipbuilding and Iron Company, and tlie other by VickersArmstrong, Ltd. Each vessel will have a different type of machinery—Sulzer, Doxford and M.A.H. Diesel engines. PLUME'S NEXT VOYAGE. The Vacuum Oil Company reports that the tanker Plume, now on her way from Dunedin to San Francisco, is to go into dock at the latter port for cleaning and painting. She will subsequently load a full cargo of bulk motor spirits at San Francisco for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. The vessel is due at Auckland about December 10.

CORINTHIC DUE TOMORROW.—The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company's liner Corinthic left Wellington yesterday morning for Auckland, and she is due tomorrow morning to complete the discharge of her cargo of general merchandise and to commence loading for her homeward voyage. The other loading ports are Gisborne, Timaru, Napier and Wellington. The vessel is to be dispatched from Wellington for Southampton and London on.Hovember 22. A. S. Paterson and Company, Ltd., will act as the local agents.

WIRELESS FROM RANGITIKI.— Wireless advice received by the Hew Zealand Shipping Company from the motorship Rangitiki states that the vessel is expected to reach Auckland at 6 o’clock on Friday morning from Southampton and London. After unloading her cargo of general merchandise at Auckland and Wellington, the vessel will load for her homeward voyage at Lyttelton, Auckland, Napier and Wellington. She is to load at Auckland from Hovember 22 to Hovember 25, and. is scheduled to be dispatched from Wellington for Southampton and London, via Panama, on December FLYING BOAT’S EXPERIENCE. The flying boat City of Athens on the Eng-land-Egypt-lndia service, recently had a somewhat unusual experience, which provides another instance of aircraft assisting shipping. The Imperial Airwavs Gazette records that when flying south from Athens she passed, ten miles southwest of St. Georgia, a sailing ship which was completely waterlogged. the hull being below the water, while the sails and masts remained standing. The flying boat flew low round the ship to make certain that no survivors remained, and immediately wirelessed to Athens the position of the wreck. Within 20 minutes Athens broadcast a warning to all shipping in the vicinity of the danger reported.

TREGONELL FROM NAURU ISLAND —With a cargo of 7,500 tons of phosphates from Nauru Island, the Hain Line steamer Tregonell arrived in the stream at 3 45 p.m. yesterday and berthed at Kings Wharf at 5 p.m. the same day. The vessel cleared Nauru Island on October 15 and made a direct passage to Auckland. Fine weather was enjoyed until last Tuesday, when she ran into a northwesterly gale, which, varying between that and a westerly, held till she made port. High seas accompanied this gale and the vessel" s progress was affected" Besides her cargo the Tregonell brought two passengers from the island, Miss Ashby and Mr. Waterman, and a few bags of mail. The vessel is discharging all her cargo at this port to the agency of Messrs. Henderson and Macfarlane. “

COAL FOR SINGAPORE.—The George H. Scales Company, of Wellington, has chartered the steamer Brockabeck to load a cargo of coal at Westport for Singapore. The vessel is at present in dock at Port Chalmers. CUMBERLAND AT AVONMOUTH.— Hews by cable has been received that the Federal steamer Cumberland arrived at Avonmouth on October 17 from Auckland. The vessel sailed from Auckland on August 31 for London and W'est Coast ports of Great Britain. MAKURA AT SAN FRANCISCO.—The Union Company advises that the Makura, from Wellington, arrived at San Francisco last Friday. She will leave again on October 30 for Papeete, Rarotonga, Wellington and Sydney, and is due at Wellington on Hovember IS. ULIMAROA* CHRISTMAS SAILING.— The local office of the Huddart-Parker Company advises that owing to _ the Christmas holidays the Ulimaroa will be despatched from Auckland for Sydney on Saturday, December 28, instead of Friday, December 27. MANUKA AT MELBOURNE.—CabIed news has been received by the Union Company that the Manuka, from Wellington, arrived at Melbourne at 1 p.m. on Thursday. She is scheduled to leave again at 10 a.m. tomorrow for Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin and Bluff, and is due at Wellington next Sunday. THE CITY OF MOBILE.—Under charter to the A. and A. Line the steamer City of Mobile is reported to have cleared Panama last Wednesday in continuation of her voyage from New York to Auckland, "Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru and Dunedin. She is scheduled to reach Auckland about Hovember 14. PASSENGERS FOR HOME.—The C. and D.
