Woman and Child Die When Old Hotel Burns
SOUTHLAND TRAGEDY BOARDERS’ ESCAPE Press Association INVERCARGILL, Today. The Carriers’ Arms Hotel at Riverton, an old two-storeyed wooden building, was destroyed by fire about 2.30 this morning, Mrs. Trembath, wife of the licensee, and her child being trapped and burned to death. William Trembath, formerly a wellknown professional runner, and the boarders escaped. Nothing was saved except a few sporting trophies.
