LAWBEATH HELD UP
NOW DELAYED AT PORT CHALMERS WATERSIDERS’ UNION P. css Association DUNEDIN, Today. The London steamer Lawbeath, which arrived at Port Chalmersyesi terday morning from Lyttelton, where ! she was delayed for a fortnight to trouble with her crew, was delayed again yesterday. The trouble at Lyttelton was caused by European dec' hands and Lascar firemen declining 1 ! continue at work unless t} ie - v ceived tlie wages and conditions ru ing in New Zealand. They ▼ere brought to court and convicted on a charge of impeding the ship and were sentenced to a month’s imprisonment with the proviso that they would « liberated when they were preparedt resume work on the old conditions The Lascars and two European' capitulated and returned to workah'’two or three days in gaol, but tore men refused to resume w*ork and sea men were shipped in their place a Lyttelton.
