CONTRACTOR FORCED TO FILE WIFE'S EXPECTATIONS From Our Own Correspondent HAMILTON, Today. Because his partner disappeared at a crucial period a young contractor, Frederick De Mulford Hyde, of Rotorua, was forced to file. He met his creditors before the official assignee, Mr. J. H. Robertson, today. The schedule showed a deficiency of £224. According to his statement, bankrupt started gravelling the HamiltonRotorua Main Highway, under a joint contract with Matthew Henderson, for the Public Works Department. After a month'Henderson disappeared leaving Hyde to complete the contract. Hyde was unable to carry on, and the plant was seized by the department. Since then bankrupt hacl been working for wages. Examined, bankrupt said that his partner was a discharged bankrupt. He had made repeated efforts to get Henderson to pay his share, without success. The only asset, beyond the possible realisation of the plant seized by the department, was £3OO for the crushing machine he sold to Butler and Carroll. Hamilton, for whom he now was working. His wife had expectations to the extent of about £3,000 under a will. She was willing to pay off all the debts except those incurred during the contract. Ci editors thought Henderson should be made to pay his share, and decided, by resolution, to take steps to investigate his financial position. The assignee said that it appeared that bankrupt had bitten off more than he could chew. Creditors expressed sympathy, asking the assignee to facilitate bankrupt’s discharge.
