AN EMIL JANNINGS PICTURE “Betrayal.” , the fine Emil J.innings . picture, continues its successful season at the Tivoli Theatre. It is a • synchronised picture, and heads the J Tivoli’s first talkie programme. Andre Frey, handsome, young, romantic Viennese artist, comes to the little Alpine village where Vroni, a beautiful Swiss peasant girl, lives with her parents and, when the spring j comes, he has won her heart. They j are deeply in love and Andre, forced ! to return to Vienna, vows that he j will return to make her his wife, j Until that time, they promise to , keep their love a secret. When Andre does return to 1 lie village he linds Vroni lias been married to Poldi Moser, the Mayor of the village, a well-to-do. good-natured man in middle life. V roni explains to Andre that her father Insisted that she marry Poldi and that she could not put him off. She introduces Andre to Poldi as an old friend who has just lost his sweetheart. Poldi is most sympathetic and welcomes Andre to his home. The Tivoli is also showing a number of bright talking and silent supports. The items ineludastery Cellar,” with some fine singing by a male quartet, a humorous sketch entitled "Between the Acts ut_ the Opera,” also an “International News” and a merry comedy. j “Knights Out” puts Clark and Mo- ! Cullough in armour as aspirants to the round table of King Arthur. To prove their eligibility to mingle with other famous knights, they set forth j to conquer the Black Knight, who is | holding the princess captive in his castle. Their way is beset by dragons, centaurs, syrens, and other dan- ] gers, but needless to say they win out in the end in a typical Clark and McI Cullough manner.
