Averting a Crisis!

New Note in Jumpers H CRISIS in the Navy has been narrowly averted, writes a correspondent of the “Daily Mail.” Its nature was revealed in a question by Sir Bertram Falle, the Conservative member for Portsmouth, on the order paper of the House of Commons. He asked Mr. Alexander, the First Lord of the Admiralty: Whether he will consider an improved pattern of serge jumper for ratings dressed in Class 11. uniform, observing that the present contractor’s jumper is too short in length and too wide in width, and hangs very badly, and that Class 11. ratings dislike this jumper. I am informed that when this matter was referred to the First Lord he at once took a day off from scrapping cruisers and devoted his whole attention to the more serious problem. Inquiries which were made on the lower deck showed that vivid conversations had been taking place on the subject. Happily the First Lord, Mr. Alexander, later, was able to redress the grievance, and in reply to the question informed Parliament: An improved pattern of serge jumper has been adopted to meet the points referred 1 to. New supplies are being made to this Improved pattern, and will bo brought into general use as stocks of previous patterns are used up.
