Southland won the New Zealand women s nockey championship easily from Canterbury, last year's champions, by ti goals to 1. it was a most Uisappointing game. The weather was line and. tnere was another very large attendance. „ , , For the first ten minutes Canterbury played like champions, but after Southland scored their second goal Canterbury went to pieces. Tne haltbacks were a weak link in the team, but the fullbacks were also off their game, being harassed by the opposing norwards. Southland never loked like a beaten team and ran all over their opponents Misses Burt and Clarke hardly missed a ball all day, their defence being impenetrable. The forwards gave a brilliant exhibition throughout. Kur {Southland Misses* Hislop (o), Clark, Mclntyre and Horner scored goals, which all resulted from concerted forward rushes. Miss Burrows scored Canterbury’s only goal. Ruahino defeated Wellington for the Holden Trophy by 3 goals to 1. lhe trophy is awarded for third place in tho tournament. The game was hard and fast. Goals for Ruahine were scored by Misses D. McKinnon (-*)* and F. Rendle. Miss Waters scored for Wellington. . . The annual Pakeha-Maori match resuited in a draw of two goals each. Tlio inter-island match will be placed tomorrow.
