WRESTLERS ARRIVING
W ALKER_ENG AGED FURTHER AUCKLAND MATCHES The New Zealand Wrestling Association has secured the services of George Walker, heavy-weight champion of Canada, who is expected to arrive in Auckland on September 19. Walker won the Canadian heavyweight title by defeating “Farmer” Vance, and his arrival for matches in Auckland should go still further toward popularising the sport here. Clarence IScklund, who claims the light-heavy-weight championship of the world, and who is under contract to the New Zealand Wrestling Association, arrives on Monday. AUCKLANDER’S SUCCESS Since his defeat by Naranjan Singh, Charlie Pollard, the Auckland wrestler, has set himself out to win his way back to public favour. Pollard says that he did not know that he had to wrestle with the Indian, but thought it was only an exhibition contest. He freely admits that he was well and truly beaten but he hopes to work his way back to get another contest in Auckland. In the past three weeks Pollard has been engaged in three contests and has won them all. Three weeks ago he met and defeated by two falls to one, Cameron, an Australian light-heavy-weight wrestler, at Thames. Last Monday he defeated O’Brien at Thames by two straight falls, and followed this up by defeating Cameron by two falls the following evening at Te Aroha. Pollard has been offered a match with “Farmer” Vance at Te Awamutu, but nothing has been definitely arranged so far, as Vance is engaged in Auckland on September 10, when he meets Naranjan Singh.
