THREE YEARS’ PROBATION FOR GARDENER THEFT OF RECORDS Stealing 10 gramophone records at £4 from his employer on Storas Braithwaite being admitted to probation for three years at the Police Court this morning. Braithwaite was represented by Mr. who pleaded guilty for him. “ A pretty mean theft," was how C'hief-D e t ect | ve Hammond described accused's action. Other articles had teen missing from the house where Braithwaite was employed as a gardener, but he strenuously denied takthem. The records had been found *** the man’s room. He had one previous conviction bax?k in 1923. Mr. Moody said that his client was * divorced man, supporting one child. r* e had behaved well on probation before. Counsel did not think it at improbable that two thieves had at work in the place where had been employed. Mr. W. J. Campbell, probation offiCer . suggested that the man be given J 1 *© more chance with a long term of imprisonment if he did not take advantage of it. Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.. suggested 12 months’ probation, but the probation officer recommended three years and lenience was imposed, accordingly.
