TE AROHA NOTES

TEAM FOR THE SOUTH AN INTERESTING BUDGET (Special to THE SLSJ TE AROHA. Friday. The two-year-old Leasehold. by Acre—Elingre. who has just joined G. A. Reid's stable, is a nice stamp of a juvenile and is in good condition. He is the first of the Acre family to be trained here, and will probably be an acquisition to the Te Aroha list of thoroughbreds. The officials nominated for the vacancies in the Te Aroha Jockey Club did not exceed the required number, and at the annual meeting next week (on August 304 the following will be declared duly elected: —President. Mr. R. L. Somers; vice-presidents, Messrs. P. Baine. R. Burke and J. B. Johnson; committee. Messrs. F. 1. Hunt. G. McGlashan. F. T. Rowe and J. P. Somers; treasurer. Mr. H E. I>. Willcox. In J. H. Wallace’s string it would appear that William of Orange and Unique are especially good doers, and will require a fair amount of solid work before they are asked to carry silk. For Avondale Grand Arch is being got ready for the Avondale meeting. He has improved a lot during the winter, and will be expected to make good this season. In the past two years the local jockey club has cleared JC4OS 11s l’d by grazing and dealing in cattle, and the capital involved has shown a much better return than the <£soo invested in the Breeding Association. It is not certain whether Black. Maire will be taken on the Southern trip, but Glenstar, Trig. Glenison and All Wera will take on the journey. They have been working steadily,

and with an element of may pay expenses. . . t Of the hunte that lia\e .lateij qualified at the hunts in this district those most likely to race \\ell o\ ci the country with the colours up are Star of the East, Gay Comet and Archeen. The first-named has only to be kept right to assist in maintaining the good name of the VV aikato Lt*" is probable that an eft or t will be made in due course to keep the Waikato Country Clubs Association alive, and it is stated that a proposal to purchase a stallion from England will be favourably considered. It is acknowledged that looking at the subject from all points of view the acquisition of Dav Comet and Archiestow n was a distinct success, inasmuch asj both horses left a lot ot valuable The chestnut gelding Archiestown —Campfight in P. • Really s stable will be raced in the name ot the Thames Valley sportsman. Mr. 11. R. Bush. Training Operations Thursday morning’s proceedings on the track included some solid work by the horses counted to be a little backward, and a couple of interesting bouts bv those leaving on Monday for the Southern trip. After three days’ steady rain the grass gallop was anything but fast. Gay Comet was sent four rounds of the inner circle, and relished his task, while Wee Prince showed pace in a round, over which he went very freely. -Glenison, who is still showing improvement, moved smoothly over six furlongs, and satisfactory work was reistered by the Glen Albyn filly. The Lamb, and King Lap. Working exercise was allotted Dainty Arch, Grand Arch and Crown Arch. Glenstar and Ah Wera ran live furlongs in 1.8 1-5, a fair gallop on a damp track. The latter handled the going better than Glenstar. Trig and Black Maire were sprinted over four furlongs, run in 54. the latter appearing to have a little the better of the finish.
