NEW RACING YACHT
BIG KEELER TO BE BUILT IN AUCKLAND YARD LARGEST SINCE 1904 Plans for another large racing yaclit for the Waitemata Harbour are being drawn by Mr. Col. Wild. The wellknown boatbuilder, of Stanley Bay. The new boat will be about the same size as the crack racer, Ariki, which is 54ft. long. The yacht is to have a waterline of SSft., a beam of 12ft., and will draw 6ft. Sin. Mr. Wild, who built a successful racing yacht, Nga-toa. three seasons ago, favours the Marconi rig. which is very popular in other parts of the world and is being adopted extensively by yacht racing men. The rig requires a very long mast and Mr. Wild's boat will carry a “stick” 74ft. high. She will have no bowsprit or gaff and is to be equipped with a double headsail and a jib topsail. In view of the large amount of construction work entailed the yacht will not be ready for this season’s racing. Apart from the schooner-yaclit Valkyrie, which was launched early this year, the new yacht will be the largest of her type built in New Zealand since the latmching of Ariki in 1904.
