FARM BOYS WANTED

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE WORK MANY OPENINGS At this time of the year there are plenty of openings for ctty boys who wish to go on the land. This is the opinion of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, which has embarked on a scheme of sending city boys on to farms if they desire to take up that occupation. The scheme has been in operation for only two months, and is working wonderfully well, according to Dr. E. P. Neale, secretary of the chamber. At present the chamber is receiving more applications for boys than it can supply, and any parents who are desirous of sending their boys on the land should communicate with the secretary. The chamber has already been responsible for placing 24 boys on farms throughout the province, and in most cases the boys are all happy and contented, and the farmers themselves are pleased with the results. In one or two instances things have not worked out so happily, and it seems that the lads in these cases have been sent to farms without having any real interest in the work. “Many parents are writing in to see if we can place their boys on farms, but not so many as we would like,” said Dr. Neale this morning. “In some instances the type of boy is not su ch that we can recommend him. It is unfortunate in some ways that the school year does not end in August instead of in December in a dairying province such as Auckland,” continued the doctor.
