OPOURIAO COMPANY’S SUCCESS NO SECOND GRADE (Special to THE SUN) WHAKATANE, Thursday. There was not a single crate of sec-ond-grade cheese made in either factory of the Opouriao Dairy Company, Ltd., during last season. This was announced at the annual general meeting of the company, held at Taneatua yesterday, Mr. W. Reid, chairman of directors, presiding over about 70 suppliers. During the year S9O tons of cheese were put out, an increase of 45 tons over the previous year. Local sales had kept up well, but the price of cheese dropped just when the height of the season’s supply was being placed on the market. The price had since recovered, but was again at a low level. The Ruatoki Factory was completed and cheesemaking was started there in the second week of last November. The Dairy Division- considered that the Ruatoki Factory was a model five-vat factory. The directors recommended that a dividend of 6 per cent, be paid on the paidup capital. The motion was carried. The election of two directors resulted in the return of Messrs. T. Mitchell and T. Excellent quality cheese has been produced from the Toa Toa Factory, according to the report at the annual meeting of the dairy company this week. For the second time the factory gained the second highest average grade at the grading at Auckland, with 92.9.97. At other shows high awards were won. The butter payment for the year has been Is 7£d a lb. fat, with a five *oer cent, interest on fully-paid shares. The increase on last season’s output was 19.3 per cent. For cheese, the cost of manufacture was 1.15 d a lb. Mr. J. IT. Reid, chairman of directors, remarked that an increase in output in the coming season of 25 per cent, was indicated. The average test for the season was 4.14. Mr. H. D. Adams was re-elected a director.
