“NOTHING BUT CRITICS”

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE CRITICISED OPPOSITION TO TRADING “'Nothing but a conglomeration of i critics,” was the designation applied ; to the Auckland Chamber of Com- i merce by a member of the Waite-! mata Electric-Power Board this morn- j ing. The statement was made after the chairman, Mr. J. W. Hayden, said that j opposition was afoot against trading by power boards. “Actually the amount of trading done is very small indeed,” said Mr. Hayden. “What is done is principally in those places where there are no private electrical traders. The Auckland Chamber of Commerce is the prime mover against us.” A Member: Has it definitely named j us? The Chairman: No, but there are only two power boards here —the Auckland and the Waitemata. An attempt to tax us through legislation will be tried. Mr. Mackie: Is it worth taking any notice of? The chairman said the matter should be placed before the board's representatives in the House to protect themselves. “The electrical traders themselves are not opposed to us at all.” he said. "The federation of electrical traders has definitely said that.” It was decided to circulate among j members a report on the subject , which was submitted to the Power Boards’ Confereuce in Wellington last I week.
