ALL-WEATHER OUTFITS

Housewife and business girl both need at least one good, smart allweather outfit. Shopping must be done, and the office must be reached, whatever the elements, but the duties will seem much less troublesome if the right clothes are worn. Personally. 1 like the lovely new leather coats. You can get them in most colours and in various styles. They are comparatively light in weight, and as neat and trim as the smartest woman could wish. With a coat like this, you may choose a little turn-down all-weather hat of similar leather; or you may prefer a beret, or an ordinary pull-on of proofed tweed, trimmed with band and bow of the leather. All are good style. Then we have splendid waterproof tweeds in various colour combinations: also a tweed that is rubberproofed on the inside. These show no outward sign of their inward usefulness, and are equally in the picture when a burst of sunshine drives away the rain-clouds as when the weather is doing its worst. Perhaps on the whole a tweed coat is the more to be commended to the business girl. When rain suddenly gives way to sunshine, nothing is more uncomfortable than to be caught out in a frankly waterproof coat and badweather hat, carrying an essentially practical “brolley”; unless it is to be caught in a storm with no protection at all!

Talking of umbrellas, you might well invest in a very amiable one which provides two or three covers in different colours with its single main stick. Thus you can ring the changes, varying the cover to accord with the colour of any particular suit or coat. Better still is the capacious handbag, which allows a small “brolly” to be snugly tucked within it. With a smart waterproof tweed coat and hat, and a bag like this, you can face any sort of day without flinching. If you use make-up, remember you can get lipstick and rouge that will remain firm in face of the most torrential downpour. Also you can get a setting lotion for the hair that will keep the waves still waving in face of wind and rain. G.P.
