A GREAT PORT IN THE FAR EAST.—AII eyes have been on Vladivostok, the great port of north-eastern Asia. The name Vladivostok signifies Power or Sovereign of the East and the town lies on the undulating slopes of several hills at the south-west end of a peninsula projecting between the Amur and and Ussuri Bays into Peter the Great Bay. The fortified naval and commercial harbour is formed by the irregular, land-locked bay of the Golden Horn, a fine stretch of deep water, four miles long and over half a mile wide, the entrance to which is commanded by Russian Island and a number of islets.
