Young Scotsman to be Released at Once
GUEST OF VICAR MINISTER REDUCES SENTENCE (From Our Oton Correspondent) HAMILTON, Today. The young Scotsman, William Morrison, around whom so much controversy has raged, is to be released from gaol at once and will be the guest of the Rev. H. E. Jones, vicar of Frankton.
Mr. Jones has received the following telegram from the Minister of Justice: —“Are you prepared to take charge of William Morrison? If so he will be released immediately/* Mr. Jones had been in communication with the Minister for some days, and had also consulted Mr. J. A. Young, M.P. On receipt of the Minister’s telegram, Mr. Jones promptly replied that he would take charge of Morrison. He asks that anyone who has employment to communicate with him soon, as he leaves the parish shortly.
Morrison was sentenced by justices of the peace on July 16 to one month’s imprisonment on a charge of vagrancy. He pleaded that he was not a criminal and could not find work anywhere. In many quarters the sentence was regarded as severe, and a question regarding the case was asked in the House. The Minister of Justice, the Hon. T. M. Wilford, promised to make investigations.
