MATAIPUKE A WINNER TROT TO STUDENT PRINCE (Special to THE SUN) TIMARU, Today. The annual meeting of the South Canterbury Hunt Club was held at Washdyke today in fine weather. The track was fairly heavy. There was a good attendance. Results: HADLOW HACK HURDLES Of £llo*, li mfles A —CARINTHIA, 10.1 1 2 —GALA DAY, 10.3 2 1— ZEUXIS, 9.0 3 All started. Won by two lengths, six lengths between second and third. Time, 2.52 2-5. Zeuxis was backed down to a short price for the Hadlow Hurdles, but there also was solid support for Gala Day. The latter and Goldtown carried on the early running, but five furlongs from home Blue Peter and Carinthia commenced to move up. Gala Day and Carinthia were first to turn for home, and once over the last hurdle Carinthia easily beat Gala Day by two lengths. Zeuxis was six lengths away third, followed by Paris, Apache, Goldtown and Blue Peter. PAREORA HUNTERS’ STEEPLECHASE 6—DIAMOND JACK, 9.7 1 2 VALVES, 9.1;- 2 I—SILVER LIGHT, 10.13 3 Scr: Hyperion, Master Garland, Krasnoi. Won by two and a-half lengths, 10 lengths between second and third.. Time, 4.29 2-5. Silver Light was a hot favourite for the Pareora Hunters’ Steeplechase, but after being prominent early, she failed

to finish on under he.r big weight. Diamond Jack went to the front passing the stands the first time and led down the back with Silver Light from Valves and Tehaunui. Diamond Jack drew out from Silver Light and Valves four furlongs from home, and sustaining his strong run, beat Valves by two and a-half lengths. Silver Light was 10 lengths away. Tehaunui fell four fences from home and Ma Rosa and Sea Boy ran off early in the contest. SOUTH CANTERBURY STEEPLECHASE Of £200; 21 miles I—FABRIANO, 11.5 1 3—HANDY, 10.5 2 Scr: Terehu. Won without opposition. Time, 6.22. LEVELS HACK HANDICAP Of £190; 6 furlongs A —ELL BOA, 9.7 1 1— BROADFIELD, 9.2 2 2 MOUNT BOA, 9.9 3 All started. 'Won by three lengths, a head between second and third. Time, 1.20. Ell Boa scored an easy win in the Levels Hack. She and Mount Boa led into the straight, but Ell Boa finished well and won by two lengths. Broadfield came through fast over the last furlong and just got up to beat Mount Boa for second place. El Nido was fourth. WASHDYKE TROT (Saddle) Of £100; 1J miles 2—STUDENT PRINCE, limit .. .. 1 B—OTAIO8 —OTAIO ROSE, limit 2 7—GOLDEN VALE, 12yds 3 All started. Won by three lengths, 12 lengths between second and third. Time, 3.54 2-5. Student Prince, ridden by the Addington horseman, J. Bryce, junr., always looked a winner in the Washdyke Trot. He led from the start, and though challenged by Otaio Rose over the last hundred yards, he held his place to win by three lengths. The favourite, Golden Vale, was 10 lengths away third and the next to finish was Kid Logan. TESCHEMAKER MEMORIAL STEEPLECHASE CHASE Of £150; 21 miles 1 — MATAPUKE, 10.3 1 2 NIGHT RAID, 10.9 2 3 VALVES, 9.2 3 Scr: Silver Light, Hyperion, Te Haunui, Sea Boy. There were only three starters in the Teschemaker Hunt Cup, for which Mataipuke was favourite, but at a good price. Mataipuike led throughout and had no difficulty beating Night Raid by eight lengths. Valves fell three fences from home, but was remounted to gain third place.
