HUIA’S SMART TRIP
NOBEL EXPLOSIVE COMPANY’S VESSEL AUSTRALIAN HARDWOODS A smart round trip has just been made by the Nobel Explosive Company's auxiliary topsail schooner Huia.
The vessel arrived in port yesterday morning from Grafton, New South Wales, after an absence of SI days. She left Auckland on May 6 for Brisbane with a cargo of explosives. After unloading at the Queensland port she took on a cargo of coal for Melbourne and then loaded explosives at that port for discharge up north. The first call was at Cairns, a distance of 1,900 miles, which she covered in 12 days. Calls were then made at Townsville, Rockhampton and Brisbane. She then proceeded in ballast to Grafton where she loaded her present cargo of Australian hardwoods. Captain T. H. E. Lane said that the Huia had experienced fair average weather since she had cleared Auckland. Her fastest time was on the trip out to Brisbane from here. For three consecutive days she covered more than 200 miles a day. The Huia is a vessel of 251 tons and is now discharging at Central Wharf.
