THE CENOTAPH
Sir, — In your issue of 23rd Inst., “Second Lieutenant” wrote suggesting that the War Memorial Committee invite subscriptions for the purpose of raising funds to provide a cenotaph at the museum. I would suggest, however, that the committee be requested to explain what has become of the money already subscribed by a generous public for this, and for the placing of the names of the dead on the panels in the Hall of Memories, which. I understand, has now been converted into a private library for the use of institute members only. The public does not care about paying twice over for the same thing. A very clear statement on this subject is what is wanted, so as to remove, if possible, misapprehension on the subject. W. E. CAYLEY ALEXANDER. Deputy-President Te Kuiti R.S.A.
