The track received a bad time j yesterday, the turf being very much j cut up. and therefore the prospects for | the going tomorrow being anything but j sodden are not particularly bright, i Fields are good, however, and the fix- ! ture is sure to attract a ret ord crowd. | The rain ceased at Timaru this morning, but the weather is again threatening and typical wintry conditions are likely to obtain at ‘Washdyke tomorrow. The chief event of , the day will be the South Canterbury Steeplechase, in which Fabriano again will be seen in action. In the Wai-iti Steeples yesterday he came to grief through no fault of his own. and with a stand-up tomorrow he may afford his owner the consolation of winning the two and a-half miles cross-coun-try event. The following may be expected to come in for good support for their engagements. the starting time of each event also being shown: Hadlow Hack Hurdles (11.40 a.m.). — Gala Day and Apache.
