TEA PRECEDES ENTERTAINMENT The annual 'prcsentation of prizes won by pupils of St. Peter‘s Anglican Sunday School, Takapuna, was held in the Parish Hall on Friday evening. As a. preliminary to the gathering of parents and friends, the children were entertained at tea served under the direction of the superintendent, Mr. E. E._ Grimwude, and the teaching staff. A. large number of book prizes were ‘distributed to the successful pupils by the lVlayoress, Mrs. J. XV. Williamson, including two special attendance awards to the lVlisscs Quedley and Perry. neither of whom had lost an ‘attendance mark throughout the year. 1 During the evening a talented troupe of. ‘children, under the direction of Dlrs. ‘ Kindred, presented the Operetta “Goldi—locks and the Three Bears,” the age—old nursery story being followed with keen interest by the large assembly of parents and children. Hearty applause signalised the drop of the curtain and showed the appreciation of the audience for the clever acting of the juveniles.

KING COUNTRY JOTTINGS

Navy and gold, the colours of the Raurimu Cricket Club, were effectively used in a beautiful decorative scheme in the Public Hall for the club’s annual ball. ' The attendance was very large, numerous visitors motoring in "from the Chateau Tongariro, as well as neighbouring townships. The “Merry Three” supplied the music, with extras generously given by lVlrs. VV. IVICNamara and .Miss Zachariah. Mr. A. Naylor was master of ceremonies. During an interlude Mrs. J. F. Waldegrave, patroness of the Kaitieke Sub~Union, presented the Raurimu Club with the sub—union’s banner won during last season. Competitive dances resulted: Monte Carlo, Miss V. Lierry and Mr. Erni: number waltz, luiss Gruebner (Owhango) and partner; spot waltz. Miss L. Anderson and Mr. E" Smith. A cake. artistically decorated in the form of a miniature cricket field, was won as the prize of a. guessing conipetition by Mrs. Crighton. )3: ‘ Y 4 A. meeting of the Ladies’ Guild was held at the residence of Mrs. Crockery Kaitieke, when matters affecting thel guild‘s work were dealt with. Sixtyj new books received from the school‘ committee for the school library were‘ labelled and numbered. The financial results of the function were satisfactory. 8 * At a gathering of all available patients and the staff in the men’s ward at the Tauniarunui Public Hos—pital, the local Savage Club gave a delightful concert, over which Kangatira R. \V. Beresford xvielded the mere. The following Savages and Visitors took part—Savages Anderson, Pitlams. Ashurst, Calderwood‘ King, Parker, Campbell. Hughes, Brown, Franks, Arthur and Brinkinan. Savage ’l‘ollerton. of Auckland, gave a number of clever feats of conjuring, assisetd by Nurses XVorkman and Elliott. Air. G. \V. Sherson, on behalf of the patients, returned thanks to the performers. The party was atterwards treated to supper by the nursing staff.
