GOING “HOME”
New Zealand Tourists Spend £1,500,000 RECORD NUMBER THIS YEAR During the month of May and the beginning of June there were 3,000 New Zealanders in England. Over 700 of them attended a reception given by the High Commissioner, Sir James Parr, early in June. A member of the High Commissioner’s staff, who is closely in touch with the tourist traffic in England, stated that about £1,500,000 was spent this year by New Zealanders on trips to the Old Country. Ho estimated that the cost of a trip from New Zealand to England, including fares and hotel expenses, was about £SOO. Never before have so many New Zealanders visited England as they are doing at present. Alost of them stay for several months. This year is said to have been a record. In addition to the visitors, many New Zealanders are going to England to take up billets. Several newspaper men are holding good positions on London dailies and other publications. Authors and artists, and musical folk from the Dominion, aim to get to the Empire metropolis, and the numbers who decide to do this are increasing each year. The number of New Zealand women
