MR. C. D. P. TOPLISS sir. C. D. I’. Topliss, late of Paeroa. who died in Wellington on Friday, was an old Nelson College boy and for six years was manager of the Paeroa branch of the National Bank of Slew' Zealand. He was keenly interested in all sports in the district, being an enthusiastic golfer and tennis player and a vice-president of the Rugbv Union. He was an officer in the Mew Zealand Rifle Brigade, serving in France and Flanders. MR. R. T. SMYTHE Mr. Robert Travers Smythe, who died at Palmerston .North, was bora in London and arrived in Mew Zealand in the sailing ship Mary Shepherd. settling in Auckland and later in Wellington, Mapier. Gisborne and finally Palmerston North. Mr. Smythe is survived by Ins wif I one son. ill-. P. T. Smythe, Palmerston ; North, and seven daughters. MR. W. BILLING The death occurred at New PI; - : mouth on Thursday of Mr. Wiliiam Billing, at the age of 85 years. Born I ;n New Plymouth, he served in the Maori War and afterwards engaged in ] farming. He had been living in rei tirement for 20 years. Mr. Billing is survived by his wife and three sons. Messrs. . E. and H, R. Rilling, of New Plymouth, and M- ' L. A. Billing, of Dargaville. • MR. E. SALT A well-known mountaineer. Mr. William Salt, of Wanganui East, died in .the Taihape Hospital on Friday. Mr. I Sale was. for the past 10 years presii of the Ruapehu Ski Club, and thGovernment, in appreciation of his work in connection with the National Park, appointor! him a member of the Park Board when it was formed in 1922. Ho was a prominent Freemason Mr. Salt is survived by bis widowed i mother, three sisters and two brother.-, Mr. O. Salt of Mangaweka, and Mr. E. Salt, of Auckland.
