NORTHCOTE COUNCIL

The Northcote Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. A. D. Greenslade, presiding. In connection with the proposal to erect bathing sheds, it was decided to advise the Ratepayers’ Association that the proposal in its present form could not be entertained. Five guineas was donated to the Harbour Bridge Association, and £ 1 Is to the Society for the Protection of Women and Children.

To facilitate the building of the Sacred Heart College at Northcote, and the proper laying-out of the grounds, it was decided, under certain conditions, that portions of roads should be closed, and that the council should receive in exchange land for another outlet to the tidal water. The New Zealand Marist Brothers’ Trust Board contemplates erecting the college on lots 79 and 80, closing the road shown eastward of lots 80 and 88, and substituting therefore a road dividing sections 78 and 70, and giving access to the tidal w'ater in the lagoon. When arrangements have been completed it is proposed to erect a main college for Auckland, and later probably a scholasticate and a novitiate, which will altogether occupy the whole area of approximately 93 acres.
