The monthly meeting of the Tau- ! ’ ranga Borough Council was held on j Wednesday, the Mayor, Mr. B. C. Rob- ? bins, presiding. 5 The works committee presented a ; report submitting a schedule of street works, and recommending the raising of an unemployment loan to provide employment for a number of men out of work. Mr. P. Everett, orchard instructor, advised that the Department wanted to test the growing of “tung oil” trees j by having them planted in different localities. He offered 25 to the coun- j cil. A committee was appointed to meet Mr. Everett. It was decided to join with other local bodies in urging the Governmnt to have large tracts of unimproved land in this district thrown open for j settlement. An effort is to be made j to have a native school endowment in the borough, vested in the Borough j Council and Agricultural Association for a recreation and show ground. On the recommendation of the municipal pictures committee it was de- ' cided to instal a Western Electric ' Company’s talking picture equipment in the Town Hall. This is expected to be in operation by October.
