BRAVE BOY SCOUT
GILT CROSS AWARDED SAVED GIRL FROM DROWNING (Special to THE SUN) WHANGAREI. Thursday. The bravery of a scout who rescued a little girl from drowning some time ago was recognised at a social function last evening, when Patrol-Leade: Uric Reynolds, of the Ist Whangarei Troop of Boy Scouts was presented with the gilt cross, tile second highest award a Scout can receive for bravery About 19 months ago a little girl bathing at Taurikura Bay, Whangarei Harbour, got into difficulties and bur for the action of Reynolds in rescuir. her would have lost her life. Th child's mother communicated with li Scout headquarters and finally the ai proval of the Chief Scout. Sir Rolv> ; Baden Powell, in England, was obtained for the awarding of the gi i cross for gallantry. The Mayor, Mr. W. Jones, in presem ing the cross, expressed the opinio :> that such actions were a very stroi recommendation lor the Scout niovi ment, in which many useful crafts v # i taught, but none more valuable th; • life-saving.
