FUNDS FOR SPORTS AREA | To assist in raising funds for ini- j proving the girls’ sports area at Rem- j uera, a bridge party was held yesterday afternoon in the Ellerslie ’ Tea Kiosk. Mrs. M. A. Campbell and Miss Hay were the organisers. The Mayoress. Mrs. A. D. Campbell, a vice-president of the Auckland Girls’ Athletic Association, explained the improvements planned, and Miss Jean Begg, president, also spoke. At the present time, the painting of the pavilion is one of the objects.

CLUBS COMBINE AT GAY MANGERE EVENT PRIZES PRESENTED The annual combined dance and | prize night of the Mangere East and j Central Tennis Clubs was held in the I Mangere East Public I-lall on Wednesj day evening. There was a good atI tendance of members and their friends i present, and a very enjoyable evening | was spent dancing to the music of | Hanlin’s Orchestra. Messrs J. Solomon | and ID. James were M.C.’s. A progressive 500 tournament was won by Mrs. A. G. Grinter and Mr. E. H. Solomon. Between dances, Mr. S. TV. House presented the captain of the Mangere Central team with the House Cup, won by the club in competition with the Mangere East Club, and later presented the winners of the club competitions with the trophies won during the season as follow: Mangere East Club. —Women's championship, Miss B. Solomon; me i’s championship. Mr. J. Solomo’n: , women’s handicap singles. Miss M. i Solomon; men’s handicap singles, Mr. E>. James. Junior cups—Women, Miss G. Newson; men, Mr. L). Chalmers. Women’s handicap doubles. Misses A. Crooks and B. Solomon; men's handicap doubles, Messrs. L. Kay and J. Paine; handicap combined doubles, Miss R. Solomon and Mr. J. Solomon. Mangere Central. —Women’s championship singles, Miss Adella Ellett; men’s championship singles, Mr. Clyde Ellett; junior women’s championship, Miss M. Botterill; men’s junior championship, Mr. Ivin Ellett.
