RUSSIAN VIOLINIST
GREGORY IVANOFF’S CONCERT
A well-chosen programme «>f violin numbers by Gregory Ivanoff proved a big attraction at the Lewis Eady Hall last evening. The popular Russian violinist was in good form and ail items were warmly applauded. His opening number, the PagnaniKreisler "Praeludium and Allegro. ' was played with splendid expression, the number serving to show the violinist’s pronounced virtuosity. The reauirements of light and shade were also nicely observed. Wilhelmy’s arrangement of a Chopin "Nocturne ’ proved popular, as also Lully’s “Gavotte” with its pleasing rhythm. The always popular "Chax;onne” of Bach was brilliantly played. I The final group included "Chanson Meditation” (Paul Cottenet). "From the Canebrake” (Gardner), "Lullaby" (Cesar Cue), "Serenade” (Tod Boyd) and Wieniawski's "Souvenir de MosMr. Otto Beck sang "Black Rose" (Sibelius), "Dreary Steppes” (Gretchaninoff) and “Sea Fever” (Ireland) His solos were well received and Mr Beck was obliged to contribute several extra numbers. Mr. Ivan Fosello was an excellent ac- ! companist.
