MR. GEORGE BELL Advice has been received in Dunedin of the death in Melbourne after an operation of Mr. George Bell, the only son of the original proprietor of the Dunedin “Star.” Joining the “Star” directorate in 1895, Mr. Bell became managing-director in 1901. 111-health comp-elled him to leave Dunedin and for the past 25 years he had lived at Kew, Melbourne. Mr. Bell passed his 90th year seven months ago. Air. Bell is survived by three sons and two daughters, and one sister. Mrs. Hannah Smith. MRS E. J. CAMPBELL A former Mayoress of Parnell, Mrs. Elizabeth Jane Campbell, died at her home n Arney Road, Remuera, yesterday at the age of 73. A daughter of the lato Mr. R. C. Barstow, resident magistrate at Auckland, Mrs. Campbell married Mr. Hugh Campbell, a lawyer, who was for some years Mayor of Parnell. For many years they lived at Parnell, later removing to Arney Road. The late Mrs. Campbell possessed the finest private aviary in New Zealand, and in her lovely garden in Arm - I Load there are birds from all parts of the globe. Her love of birds was really responsible for the formation •< the New Zealand Avicultural Society. MRS. MARY JANE TAYLOR Mrs. Mary Jane Taylor, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. P. McLaughlin, of Manukau Road, Epsom, on Wednesday, at the age of 91, was born at Woolwich, England, and came to New Zealand with her parents in th* ship Jane Gifford In 1845, arriving at Auckland after a stormy voyage. Her father, an English army officer, was posted at Otahuhu, and later she married Mr. Donald Taylor, a veterinary surgeon and Maori interpreter attached to the regiment. During the Maori Wars the regiment was stationed at various parts in the North Island and Mrs. Taylor well remembered Te Kooti whom she saw on several occasions. After the wars Mi ?! nd Mrs. 'Taylor went to live at Eller- - lie. Mr. Taylor died 13 years ago. Mrs. Taylor is survived by an adult family of seven. There are 34 grandchildren and 16 great-gTandchildre*.
