Aucklander’s Design Goes to Geneva LEAGUE OF NATIONS SYMBOL If the dearest wish of Mr. P McDonald, of 25 Wolesiey Street! Morningside, is realised, the flag designed by him will be flown from the Secretariat of the League of Nations at Geneva. 7y£R. MCDONALD, who claims with the pride of a battler that he has stood for peace for 73 years, is an ardent supporter of the League of Nations, discerning in its activities the only solution of the pressing problem of world peace. “The idea for the flag came to me in a flash,” he said. “I was looking at a rainbow one day, and the thought struck me that in it were the colours of the flags of every country on earth. I worked further on the idea, making it is simple as possible. After the

colours had been arranged, I introduced the white circle which symbolises a world freed from blood-shed-ing. The rainbow also stands for hope.” Last year Mr. McDonald submitted a model of his flag to the League of Nations at Geneva, but a reply from the Secretary-General, Sir Eric Drummond, stated that only on the proposal of the Government of a nation in the League could he be authorised to submit such a suggestion to the consideration of competent organs of the League. In order to have his flag submitted to the League in the proper manner, Mr. McDonald has written to Air. Ramsay MacDonald, Prime Minister of Great Britain, and the flag itself will also be sent to him. “I don’t want a prize or anything like that,” said the designer. “I have worked for peace, and I offer this as my gift to the League. I will be proud and honoured if it is accepted.” The flag will be dispatched to England next week, and Mr. McDonald hopes that it will be considered by the League of Nations at the meeting in September.
