HALL AND SHOPS AFIRE
COROMANDEL BLOCK DESTROYED EARLY MORNING BLAZE (Special to THE SUN) COROMANDEL, Today. A serious outbreak of fire occurred here about 3 o’clock this morning, resulting in the destruction of the Foresters’ Hall and serious damage to other buildings. The outbreak, which is presumed to have started in the rear of the Foresters’ Hall, was quickly fanned by a high wind. The fire swept through the building and ignited an adjoining twostorey block, occupied by Mr. T. Pepper, confectioner, and Mr. Meldrum, bootmaker. The fire brigade was powerless to stay the onslaught of the flames, and confined its efforts to the adjoining buildings. By 5 a.m. the buildings were a total loss. The hall was owned by Mr. C. Fraser. Mr. Pepper and Mr. Meldrum are heavy losers, as nothing was saved.
