WREATHS ON STATUE OF RICHARD SEDDON ANNIVERSARY OF DEATH Press Association WELLINGTON, Monday. The 23rd anniversary of the death of the Right Hon. Richard John Seddon was marked today by a ceremony at his statue in front of Parliament Buildings. In the presence of a gathering of Ministers, members of Parliament and relatives of the late Mr. Seddon, the Prime Minister, Sir Joseph Ward, placed on the statue two wreaths, one from the Government, and one from himself. Sir Joseph referred to Mr. Seddon’s forceful personality and his devotion to the service of the people. He said he was a great Imperialist, and his memory would always be cherished bv those who had been associated with him. Mr. H. E. Holland. Leader of the Labour Party, said Mr. Seddon had laid the foundations of democratic principles in New Zealand, and it was the duty of those who came after him to provide the superstructure. He was ’ad to join in paying a tribute to such a pioneer. After the ceremony Sir Joseph Ward called on Mrs. Seddon, who continues to live in Wellington, close to the scene of her late husband's Parliamentary activities.
