MR. W. B. BELL News from Kelantan, Malaya, star ** that Mr. William Bower Bell has died there at the age of 65. Mr. Bell was manager and part founder of the Dominion Rubber Com pany. At one time deceased, who wa* born at Inchclutha, was a champion cyclist. He was also a pioneer motorcyclist.

LEIGH For over 20 years a resident of th* Howick district, Air. Thomas V. Leigh died on Friday, at the age of 80. Born at Bristol, Air. Leigh arrived in New Zealand in the ship Lady Jocelyn 47 years ago, and took up farming in the Waerenga Valley, later removing to Alanurewa, and then to Alount Eden. He was a warden of All Saints’ Church until a year ago, and he was interred in the church cemetery on Saturday. Canon Mason and the Rev. N. D. Boyes officiated. MRS. E. GARLAND One of the pioneers of the A whim settlement, Airs. Eusebia Garland, wifiof Mr. E. R. L. Garland, died at her home in Arthur Street, Ponsonby, yesterday, at the age of 70. Born at Cardiff, Airs. Garland came to New Zealand with her parents in 1859. !n 1876 she married Air. Garland in Awhitu, and for some time they conducted a sheep farm, later turning to cattle. In 1900 they moved to Ponsonby. and in 1926 celebrated their golden wedding. Air. Garland is a brother of the Hon. G. J. Garland, M.L.C. Airs. Garlajid is survived by her husband and six children. There are i«» grandchildren. MR. JOHN PATTON An old resident of Otahuhu, Mr. John Patton, died Att his home in Avenu Road, Otahuhu, last Friday at the age of 93. Bom in .Donegal, Ireland. Mr. Patton at an early age joined the 18th Royal Irish Foot Regiment at the tine of the marriage of King Edward an 1 Queen Alexandra. When they visited the Isle of Wight on their honeymoc i Mr. Patton was one of the com p m which acted as guard of honour. La ep he came to New Zealand with the imperial troops and took part in the Maori Wars. After discharge he spent a f*w years in Patea, but then moved t*» Otahuhu, where he had lived for t h--past 30 years. Air. Patton is survived by two sor, Mr. William Patton, of Wellington, ami Mr. John Patton, of Heme Bay. and one daughter, Mrs. Barbara Bowden. of Otahuhu. MR. ROBERT FISHER ! The death of Air. Robert Fisher occurred at Pukerimu. near Cambridg' on Saturday night at the age of 87 [years. He was one of the first settler • in the district, taking up land with hi brother, the late Hon. John Fisher, in 1865, and had resided there ever since He was one of the best known and highly esteemed residents of the Waikato. Air. Fisher was chairman of tli« Waipa County Council, also the Pukekura Road Board, for many years, and took an active part in many of the dfs trict activities. He was an officer in j the original Waikato Mounted Vol jn teers. He leaves a son. Mr. Roy I Fisher, and two daughters, all of whom ! reside in the Cambridge district.
