OPIUM IN SECRET POCKET Press Association INVERCARGILL, Wednesday. An elderly Chinese, Yep Mau, pleaded guilty in the Police Court today to a charge of having opium in his possession and not guilty to ' a charge of having in his possession a utensil for smoking opium. Betective Le Sueur said he had occasion to go to the room occupied by accused. He searched the bed and under the mattress found a smoking utensil. Later witness searched accused and found nothing. Subsequently witness revisited accused’s laundry and searched him, finding a jar of opium in his waistcoat, in a special pocket cut in It. Yep Mau, through an interpreter, said the opium was brought to him about two weeks ago by a white man whom he had never seen before. He gave five shillings for it.

Accused was fined the minimum penalty of £25 on each charge.
