Cabinet Considers Harbour Bridge

SPONSORS’ OPTIMISM PRONOUNCEMENT EXPECTED The question of the erection of the Auckland harbour bridge is being considered by Cabinet at a meeting in Wellington today. As the work sponsored by a large section of the public of Auckland would come under the portfolio of the Hon. E. A. Ransom, Minister of Public Works, he is bringing forward the scheme for Cabinet’s consideration. When the Prime Minister, Sir Joseph Ward, visits Auckland next week, it is probable that he will make a pronouncement on the question. Cabinet discussion is not expected to be prolonged and the Auckland Harbour Bridge Association is optimistic as to the outcome of the debate, though it does not expect a pronouncement immediately. Several questions, including that concerning the site suggested for the bridge, will have to he investigated fully. The bridge scheme has been considered by Cabinet before, but the association believes that its proposals are coming to a head.
