HUGE LOSS OF WAGES
£235,000 THROWN AWAY BY STRIKE WORKERS REMAIN FIRM (United. P.A. — By Telegraph — Copyright) Reed. 9.5 a.m. SYDNEY, Today. The timber workers’ strike, now in its ISth week, has involved a loss of wages of £235,000, while £40,000 has been distributed in strike pay. At Melbourne the Timber Merchants’ Association decided to reopen the mills on Tuesday, and invite applications today from persons willing to work, under the Lukin award, 4S hours weekly. Eighteen hundred timber workers assembled at the Trades Hall, Melbourne. were addressed by Mr. Jock Garden and others. The meeting reaffirmed its original demands, and that, there would be no compromise on the question of working hours.
