FRENCH CLUB MEMBERS SPEND SOCIABLE EVENING

■’ The fortnightly meeting of the AuckL land French Club was held on Monday 5 evening in the club rooms*. Customs > Street. A large gathering of mem- , bers and friends was presided over by i Mr. P. S. Ardern. The hostess for , tho evening was Mrs. J. J. Sullivan, ; who received the guests wearing a • striking frock of scarlet and black beaded crepe de chine. Tho conversational class prior to the meeting was taken by Miss K. Hall, and tho entertainment part of the evening was arranged by Mrs. Caldcrwood. Tho programme opened with a pianoforte solo by Mr. X. Gallagher, and songs were sung by Miss Xancy Macklow and Mr. College. A Frenrii reading was given by Mr. G. S. Co.tlham. a violin solo was delightfully played by Mr. Ilonald Muston, and a humorous discourse by M. Paul Se.:re was much appreciated. A French comedy entitled ‘ Gisbis do Menage" was cleverly played, the various parts being taken by Miss van Osseuier, Mrs. Caiacrwuod and Mr. nail. feupper was served at the close of tho evening, the talnes being prettily decorated with zinnias and lilies.
