Airs. G. T. C. P. Swabey left by the Limited last evening on her way to England. She was accompanied as far as Wellington by Commodore Swabey.

BIRTHDAY PARTY

A delightful party was given by Air. and Airs. H. Cave, of Herne Bay, in honour of their son Roy’s birthday. The dining-room was beautifully decorated with autumn flowers, balloons and streamers. Luring the evening games and musical items were indulged in. Among those present were: Airs. 11. Cave, in navy taffeta with gold trimming. Airs. Laly (Alangonui), wearing black crepe de chine. Airs. Burns, in a maize taffeta frock. Aliss J. Lobson (Hamilton), who wore an ivory crepe de chine frock. Aliss It. Hardly, in a blush pink frock. Aliss F. Phillips, wearing salmon taffeta silk. Aliss Af. Nottingham, in pale blue crepe de chine and silver. Aliss B. Howard, who wore an apple green georgette frock. Aliss E. Bell, in pink georgette and silver relief. Aliss G. Keith, who was in champagne lace.. Aliss "V. Parsons in blush pink crepe de chine. Aliss C. Laley, in a lace georgette and silver frock. Aliss Af. Hutt, whose black velvet frock was unrelieved.

Hockey Dance

Ota liuhu Club’s Annual Function TROPHIES PRESENTED Blue streamers in two effective shades made gay decorations at the Ota huh u Public Hall on Monday evening, when the Otahuhu Hockey Club members held their annual social and dance. There was a large of guests, and dancing to the excellent music supplied by Meredith’s Adelphi Orchestra was enjoyed. Extras were played by Miss Marjorie Seel. The masters of ceremony were Messrs. W. J. Nield and 11. Fallwell. Keenly contested competitions added gaiety to the function, and were won by Miss Simons and partner, and Mr. Thompson and partner. A large number of enthusiasts indulged in a progressive euchre tournament, the successful competitors being: Women —Mrs. Miller, 1; Mrs. Woods. 2; Miss E. Kelly, 3. Men—Mr. Qilben, 1: Mr. Campbell, 2; Mr. Martin, 3. During the function Mr. G. V. Pearce presented the successful competitors with their trophies and congratulated them on their success. Apologies were received for the. unavoidable absence of Mr. IT. T. Clements, Mayor of Otahuhu. AMONG THOSE PRESENT Mrs. (i. V. Pearce was wearing a frock of black ring velvet with insets of gold. Mrs. Ken Gardiner was frocked in oriental lame, and italian shawl. Mrs. Symons wore a dainty gown of patterned crepe de chine. Mrs. Sidey wore a frock of floral georgette. Mrs. J. H. McAnulty was in cerise georgette, finished with a gay shoulder posy. Miss Chris Gardiner was wearing delpinium blue, taffeta, with trimmings of radium lace. Miss Marjorie Seel's frock was of almond green lace, with frilled, skirt, finished with trimmings of silver. Miss Phil Gardiner (Drury) wore a frock of primrose tulle and oriental shawl. Miss R. Walker was wearing ciel blue georgette with relief of silver. Miss Zeta Huason's lrock was of lipstick red crepe elise, featuring an uneven hem and beaded shawl co tone. Miss M. McLachlan was in salmon pink satin, with side panel of georgette. Miss Pinhey’s frock was of peacock blue crepe de chine, with finishings of gold lace. Miss L. Atkinson chose black georgettewith dainty trimmings of silver lace. Miss J. Macfarciubar was in a frock of bullet blue crepe de chine with floral relief in shades of rose. Miss F. Hickson's frock was of navy jersey velour, with touches of gold and royal blue. _ Miss A. Webb had orchid crepe de chine, with panels of coffee lace. Miss M. Jeffries’ frock was of jade green ring velvet. Miss Blackledge wore petunia georgette and silver lace, and an ivory shawl. Miss V. Blackburn was . wearing a frock of ivory crepe de chine. LEMON AND BLUE Miss Kath Brooks had lemon taffeta with opal blue trimmings. Miss D. Mallett, Morrinsville, was frocked in moss rose taffeta. Miss E. Thorpe wore shell-pink crepe de chine, with insets of silver lace. Miss Linda King chose oriental brocade and vieux rose crepe de chine. •Miss Ursula McAnulty was wearing a frock of lemon taffeta. Miss E. Read was in goblin blue silk marocain, finished with a shoulder spray. Miss Elsie Speed wore a frock of black satin beaute, with posies of carmine. Miss Nadia Simons chose a cyclamen crepe de chine frock, relieved with silver. Miss Amy Adams waS wearing electric blue georgette, with trimmings of silver, and shawl. Miss Mavis Roberts’s frock was of moonmist blue georgette, with vandyked hem. Miss M. Furnell’s frock was of bluebell frilled taffeta, worn with a Spanish Miss T. E. Kitto wore apricot taffeta, with relief of silver and twilight blue. Miss M. Kelly was wearing crocus mauve crepe de chine, relieved with silver. GOLD LACE GOWN Miss C. Ryburn chose a fi-ock of gold lace, worn over sedge-green satin beaute. Miss D. Rainsford’s frock was of sunset crepe de chine, daintily trimmed with gold lace. Miss. M. Ogilvie was wearing flame georgette with trimmir*gs of gold. Miss X. M. Thorpe wore lettuce-green georgette over silver. Miss Hilda Potter wore nile green taffeta and lace, finished on one hip with a large bow. Miss Betty Goodwin’s frock was of guipure lace over moss rose satin. Miss B. McGee was wearing moonlight blue georgette, and an eastern shawl. Miss J. Laundy was in military red crepe de chine, with trimmings of gold, and a posy to match. Miss V. Douglas wore willow green taffeta, finished with a shoulder posy. FRILLS OF GEORGETTE Miss Mollie Goodwin’s frock was of shrimp satin, with daintily tiered georgette overskirt. Miss H. J. Dickson was wearing nile green embossed crepe de chine. Miss M. Greenwood was in lemon taffeta, with . trimmings of art blue and silver. Miss Ann Cook was wearing powderblue crepe de chine, with self-coloured trimmings. Mr. J. McLachlan wore a frock of unrelieved black panne velvet. Miss H. Ogilvie's frock was of black georgette. ■ Miss M. Turner was frocked in black lace and flame satin. Miss Kathleen Roberts chose silver tissue and grey crepe de chine, featuring an uneven hemline. ONE-ACT COMEDIES STANLEY BAY AMATEURS Stanley Bay population includes a group of very clever amateur actors who, under Captain Redmond’s control, have succeeded in presenting several plays and comedies. Last evening the troupe presented four one-act comedies for the benefit of the Ngataringa Tennis Club, the club pavilion being the playhouse. The comedies were sprightly and well received, and are being repeated tonight. The caste included Miss Harriet Lewin, Miss Ruby Ross, Miss Madge Taylor, Miss Una Dawson. Miss Rewa Ross, Miss Kathleen Johnson. Miss Jess Daniel, Mr. Billy Lund, Mr. Colin Smith, Mr. Stan Ba.tes, Mr. F. Stevenson and Captain Redmond. The scenes whisked from a tea room “near the Law* Courts at Auckland,” to the Embankment, London, and a Chelsea studio.
