F. W. Ellis Resumes Southland trainer F. W. Ellis received a hearty welcome from his brother mentors when he returned to duty at the S.R.C. tracks this week following on a sustained bout of sickness. records the Southland “Times.” His horses had been kept going during his absence and Ellis speedily set about giving them their winding up gallops where they claimed engagements at the Dunedin J.C. winter fixture. King Balboa and Red Sea were ready for the final process and both at once answered the questions put them in a satisfactory fashion. The pair proved to be well forward and should race well at Wingatui provided they are good enough for the classes in whicfc they have been nominated. King Balboa has been treated to a considerable amount of strong work of late and promises to see out the lengthy distance of the Birthday Handicap in his first essay over one mile and a-half. while Red Sea can be depended upon to uphold her reputation for consistency when competing in hack company. The steeplechaser Xylotis. Ellis's third candidate for Wingar ai. may be said to be improving daily*.
