The Mayor said every local body should watch carefully every detail of the working of the town-planning provisions, for it might easily happen that while the Act might be of considerable benefit'to certain areas it might inflict penalties on others. The Mayor and Mr. W. Platt were deputed to act in any way in conference with members of other local bodies in town-planning matters. The Post and Telegraph Department wrote regarding the installation of a public telephone box, stating it was prepared to instal the box provided the council entered into an agreement to reimburse any loss on its working up to £SO a year. It was agreed to sign the guarantee, the general opinion being that the installation of a box was in the public interest. Tt was decided to request the Railways Department to make New Lynn a stop for the 4.5 p.m. train from Auckland. a change that would give a halfhourly service at a busy period of the day.
