HONEY OUTPUT DOWN

AUCKLAND YIELD STEADY The output of New Zealand honey has dropped, Mr. John Rentoul reports, on behalf of the New Zealand Honey Export Control Board. The total exports of honey for the current season are 577,1601 b ; the quantity received for grading was 1.455,8401 b. The estimate of this season’s export is 1,792,6001 b, valued at £59,733, as compared with the actual export last season of 2,306,0651 b, valued at £77,848. Reduction in estimated exports this season is attributed to poor yields over all districts excepting Auckland and Canterbury. The proportions of white honey coming in are also lower than last season. Great improvement is reported in packing, rejections being negligible. Demand for honey was slow, but April showed improvement. Packed sales are steadily improving.

The Government will include in the Estimates a grant of £9.000 for advertising. The Honey Producers’ Association reports increased sales in Egypt and Palestine —new territories. In India progress has been made, but business is reported as not altogether satisfactory.
