MINING NEWS
ALBURNIA—The mine manager reports: On the drive north on the main «>rlando lode from the winze a crosscut has been nut out west to see the full width of the lode, also to connect with the drive on the hangingwall branch for ventilation. The crosscut has been driven a total of 10ft. The main lode here is 6ft wide, and is a strong body of stone carrying mineral antimony and > lira. Colours of gold are still seen in the ore. About another 7ft or Sft of driving will make this connection. The c leaning out of the crosscut east at the Whau level has been timbered, lined, laid and completed up to a point 6Sft from the flat sheet at the crosscut. A start will be made this week to prospect the four leaders that cross this level to find the right one to start working on. As the level was very dirtv, it is hard to tell the quartz from mullock until some fresh ground is broken. All these leaders have not had any work done on them at this level. As we are in a splendid class of country and at the level where rich stone was got from the other reefs and leaders, there is a good chance of getting another run in any one of leader*.
