IMPOSING PAGEANTRY

THANKSGIVING SERVICE FOR \ THE KING i ( WILL DRIVE IN STATE Times Cable LONDON, Sunday. i "The Times” says the provisional arrangements for the thanksgiving service promise an imposing display typical of traditional British pageantry. Their Majesties will drive in state along Pall Mall and Whitehall to the Abbey, and return by the same route. Landaus will be used if the weather is fine, otherwise closed gilt carriages will be employed. Six horses caparisoned in gold harness, with scarletcoated postillions as attendants, will draw their Majesties’ carriage, which will be accompanied by footmen in ! Royal scarlet and gold livery. Four horses will be attached to each carriage of members of the suite. An escort of Life Guards with a standard will precede and follow their ; Majesties, who will drive last in the j procession to the Abbey and at its head on returning to Buckingham Palace. It is understood that the Prince of Wales and all the members of the Royal Family will probably attend the service. The Archbishop of Canterbury and the Dean of Westminster will conduct the service which is to be of a very simple character, and will be broadcast. No tickets will be issued except for a restricted list of official people, so that all classes will have an opportunity of attending. The hymns will include “All People That on Earth do Dwell,” and “Praise My Soul, the King of Heaven,” which is the King’s choice. The National Anthem will be sung on their Majesties’ arrival and a Te Deum at the j end of the service, the form of which will be announced in order to enable it to be used throughout the Empire. High Mass will be conducted at Westminster Cathedral on the same day. Cardinal Bourne will assist, and the service will be concluded with the i singing of the Te Deum,
