MOTTO OF ROTARY
INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS TO DEBATE POINT BIG MEETING IN TEXAS (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) NEW YORK, Saturday. The Rotary International Convention, at which there will be representatives of clubs in 4S countries, will be opened at Dallas, Texas, on Monday. One of the chief topics of debate on the first day will be the proposed substitution of “Service Above Self” for the present motto, “He profits most who serves best.” The report to be read by the secretary after the annual address by the president, Mr. R. B. Sutton, on Tuesday will show that in the past 12 months Rotafy clubs in 32 different countries have been organised, Greece, Egypt, Palestine and Yugo-Slavia being the latest additions. The membership is now 142,500. Informal discussions in 12 special assemblies concerning the club and community service will be held on Wednesday, and the international officers will be nominated. Two candidates for the international president have been so far mentioned, Mr. Eugene Newsome and Mr. Raymond Knoeppel, of America. The last two days will be devoted to balloting, and several important addresses will be delivered.
